I thought this was a pretty good demo of the TR-8, TB-3, and VT-3 all being used together. I don't think anyone's posted it yet. His setup is interesting. He says, "TR-3 output is going into VT-3 which is then going into the external in of the TR-8."

The dude has posted a couple of other demos, incorporating some other, non-Roland gear, too, which are worth checking out.

About 707 - Roland annouced (on Dancefair presentation), that they will add 707 sounds (through firmware update). That's what internet says (I didn't wath the presentation, couldn't get the livestream going).

OK. It's still not clear from the video tbh. Do these "inputs" somehow show up in the DAW alongside any inputs and outputs on the main soundcard?

OK, so it is standard audio device. Still not clear what we're listening to in playback there but probably the TR-8 is set up as the input device and their main card remains the output device; something you can do in OS-X but not Windows. The other option is to make an aggregate audio device, again a Mac only option and also a bit iffy as far as reliability goes by some accounts.

So - using it in a DAW on a Windows machine it wouldn't be all that integrated. You'd get to record some of it and then change back to your main card, unless you just wanted to use the TR-8 as the only output as well.

Not nitpicking, just curious as to what could or could not be done.

I'm not going to run out and get them. But, at least it's nice that they are descent.

Just been reading a topic on another forum i won't link you to cause it's the worst place on the planet for info lol
Some seem to think OR hope that the new System 1 will be able to host any old vst/au in future. I mean why would Roland wanna make that possible? That would just spell never ending trouble with people reporting bugs cause their soft synth doesn't work properly inside System 1.
What i was led to believe was that the System 1 would only be compatible with future Roland software starting with the SH101 plugin/out.
I mean people wanting a vst/au controller can just use an existing midi keyboard etc right? I mean i hope that it's a closed all Roland system and not a host for any old Tom d**k or Harry vst lol

I think your take is correct. Roland isn't the type of company that wants its gear to be compatible on competing products. If that's what they wanted to do, they would have built a MIDI controller.

But seriously, I think the idea here was to make the System 1 "modular" (like the 100 was) by allowing other Roland products to be plugged into it. Although here, the plugging is virtual rather than literal.

The great thing with this is that we can use the System 1's on board synth plus when they start to develop the PLUG OUT software said to be the SH101 first then once loaded it stays there in memory until you load in another via usb.

That means you can switch in between the System 1's internal sounds then quickly get to the SH101 on board. Will be great for live performers imo.

Anyways i'm looking forward to getting mine cause i pre ordered but i'm told it's end of march.

Well, you can disregard your thinking regarding those things, because they're not at all pertinent

you've got one h**l of a lot of free time to be speculating about others' initial impressions on gear seen on youtube and then trying to change mind(s) about it.
That's like a "half-world/half-problem", not enough of either to qualify as first-world... heck, it's not even a problem to begin with. :geek:

Ahhh so if the rumors of 707 additions are true i may pick up a TR-8 later.
727 sounds would be even more welcome. :)

[mellow rant] It IS kind of odd that they didn't just include them to begin with - all of under a single lousy meg of sample data! That's the whole point with 707/727 being so easy to include; with their sample-based sounds.
I wouldn't mind if they hadn't mentioned it, but man - it's THAT INTERFACE that makes the drum machine and those sliders be just beggin' for 707 sounds to grow from 'em. An easy home run, it would seem.

So the beta aspect is slightly irksome.
At least with the R8 and JVs an expansion was an expansion - and you knew you had to pay extra to get extra. And so no surprises; no incomplete spec.

Just level with me Roland, and it's all good.

So many of the products being released as 'ready but not finished' today is an annoying trend/by product of instrument marketing and design today. A boon such as "it's OS is user updatable!" stops being a boon after a certain point of silliness....cue DSI.
[/mellow rant]
