Been my preferred method for the Mono/Poly and Microbrute as well. Just until I get that extra memory chip installed in the ol' noggin.

Had an Ob-1 for a short while; might work well for you "purists" needing patch memory on a mono. Jokes aside, great synth. Let's see how many more pages we can breach on the subject.

Had a dream this morning, that my new Arp Odyssey arrived.
It was awesome unpacking it and seeing it brand new.
I remember turning it on and hitting low C, and this wonderful low breathylike sound came out.

I think, no, I know I have to have one.
I've always wanted one, but got sidetracked by something else to buy, plus the used market has skyrocketed on vintage ones.
Hopefully, Korg will make these affordable as they did with the MS-20 mini. :)

So it WILL have patch memory! And the purists don't have to worry about the signal path being affected.

Any more news about the Kodyssey?

Post by ZeeOne » Fri May 02, 2014 7:27 am

I remember back in February Korg annouced that they were in collaboration with David Friend in building a reissue of the ARP Odyssey. I checked their website and there's nothing about it beyond the original news brief, which doesn't even appear in the main news list.

This is supposed to be released in 4 months...has it been cancelled or something?

I can honestly say there is nothing I am more excited for gearwise than this, although I'm sure it'll be even harder to get than the MS-20 Mini was originally at first.

Anyone heard anything or perhaps even privy to some insider info but not under NDA?

I'm also curious about this and find it odd that in over two months there's nothing more out about it. I suppose there's not entirely too much to tell, it's a re-release of a well known synth. I think what everyone really wants to know is if it's full size and what the cost will be. Usually I'm not one for buying new synths, but I may have to make an exception to the rule.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that this might have been nothing but a huge hoax?

That'd be incredibly stupid on KORG's part, getting people's hopes up and crushing them doesn't make for a good business model.

People like me are tired of endless waits and teases for vaporware, Korg is better off keeping radio silence until they are close to release the damn thing.

What could they possibly tell us that would be worth knowing about?

I have no problem with them announcing it, it gave me a headsup so I don't spend my money on something else.
Plus I'm saving every month so I can have a good chunk of change to put towards it in the fall.

I think we'll hear quite a bit more from summer NAMM.

I see nothing wrong with announcing things ahead of time. h**l, they've teased us with Star Wars VII already, movies and bands announce the recording or production of movies all the time.

Vaporware is a marketing trick, trying to get you to not buy the competitor's product today but buy their product sometime in the future.

In my day job (computers and telecom) sometimes vaporware really is vapor...it never arrives at all but manages to stall your competition's growing market share.

It aint going away but I don't like it and never did.

I seriously doubt Korg would have announced it if they didn't have every intention of following through. I mean, they've already done the crazy-faithful-analog-repro thing once, it's not like this is something they don't have any idea how to pull off.

A hoax? No. Difficulties of some sort? Maybe.
