I don't know who those people are, who won't see the potential and put it on ebay immediately as referred earlier.

People who don't play in progrock or Ultravox cover bands maybe?

hey Bit, I think you might have me confused with another member's comments about buying a new Odyssey, because I never wrote anything like that.
I'm happy to be able to buy one, and haven't complained about the delay, slim keys, size, etc.

In regards to my comment about them going up on ebay, I only meant as I've seen happen in the past, some people buy a new product because of the hype(I have been guilty of this myself in the past), and because as in this case there are a lot of us older guys who were around when the Odyssey was first released.
So people get caught up in the nostalgia comments, and it's human nature to want one. But it's not a synth that will once you get hands on, will appeal to everyone.
You can read specifications and watch YouTube videos or listen to demos until the cows come home, but it's not until you get hands on in the studio, and hear and play it there, do you really know if it's part of the sound you're looking for.

I think for a lot of us who were in bands that had one, or remember them from bands we loved, we know how they sound in a musical context, but for a lot of the younger cats, some of their desire to get one is based on our excitement.

The Odyssey is a very versatile synthesizer, and in my opinion can be used in any genre of music, and is not limited to Prog or Synth pop music.

My comment was not meant as a denigration of anyone's knowledge regarding synthesizer products, it was more a comment on human nature.

Thank you for responding so I can explain my thoughts. Hope it cleared things up.

Ah no problem :) I was just a bit miffed about the notion that young ppl don't "deserve" a vintage synth cos they won't appreciate like the old guys would and sell it immediately. Give'em a nordlead, kind of. But that wasn't your intent.

I understand. :)

I think it was in one of the videos I watched, the guy demoing the Odyssey said he was excited to see what noises THIS generation makes with it. Which I thought was kind of cool.

Did you see the demo within a demo that Dave Spiers of G Force media did comparing the Odyssey and the new Korg Odyssey? It was in the first couple of minutes of the Sonic State video, in a small box on the screen. If you click on it, it takes you to Dave's video of the Odyssey.
Very interesting opinion.

I've had the Oddity for years and love it, and I think for software he nailed it pretty damn close.
I'm looking forward to hear how the patches I've created on Oddity sound playing it in the hardware version. :)

Doh, received my Rev2 last week but my MKII needs repair so I can't compare the 2 :(
Without a side by side comparison it feels and sounds exactly the same as the original. Apart from the crappy keyboard of course :) The new sliders are a godsend; Smooooooth

I'm in the Netherlands, Europe.
A few (5 or so) were delivered to the distributor here but immediately got recalled as there was a printing error on the frontplate (LFO switch has 2 sine waves printed instead of sine and square).
This has been rectified so the main release will have the correct printing. They contacted me asking me to send it back but I know of only 1 other unit that's reached a customer so it's ultra rare and I'm keeping it.

Yes, I heard about the printing error.
Kind of scary knowing that passed by Quality Control.

Unbelievable isn't it? I mean I hadn't read about it and it caught my eye within 10 minutes after I'd received it. And I already have a MKII so I don't need to read what is says next to the switches because I know them by heart. There must have been dozens of people working on it. Were they blind or something? Spelling errors I can understand because English isn't their native language but this is a symbol everyone working with synths knows, no matter what your native language is. Ah well, it seems they're taking care of it. Perhaps these few units were never meant to get to the end user.

I wonder if any folks who ordered theirs through Sweetwater will be canceling because of that whole Indiana boycott thing? Sweetwater is the only place to get the white ones, but if you are politically opposed to recent bills passed in that state, your beliefs may outweigh the synth-nerd factor.

I actually had to cancel my own order for health reasons just before all that.

I ordered my whiteface Odyssey through Sweetwater and won't be canceling my order.
I think the boycott is more focused on travel, conventions, etc in Indiana which would expose employees to discrimination.
I don't see how online stores would be affected, but I guess that is up to the individual.

This law is really symbolic, and in my opinion nothing but a political stunt, because it is clearly a violation of civil rights, and will be overturned by the Supreme Court.
That however, will probably take a year or two.
But it's my opinion the Governor stepped into a big ol pile of horse doo doo, and Indiana is going to suffer both in public relations and economically.

I'm not cancelling my order because activism!, but I am probably going to cancel it because I'd be pushing my budget trying to pay for both the Kodyssey and the Prophet-6, and if I have to start with just one it's going to be the P6.

I dont know if there is an official boycott. Is there? I have just seen a lot of announcements of companies and people saying they won't do business in that state, such as Peoplesoft which is pretty huge.
Sweetwater is kind of unique in a couple ways. Mostly that their sales guys are not total idiots, and they dont treat their customers like teenagers. I'd hate to see them adversely impacted by any kind of snowballing boycott movement. But then I feel like a typical scared old straight white guy. "I hope these politics dont affect my hobby!"

Just found this board. So the Oddyessy is being re released. Late 70s I worked for Stateside Electronics in the Uk. We were the Arp distributors. I am a keyboard player so was a great experience.

I had a great time for a week being trained at the Arp factory some 20 odd miles from Boston. I had dinner with David Friend at his house. Alan Pearlman`s right hand man. Also got to meet Alan. I was very friendly with John Shyken, a demonstrator. Along with Mike Brigida they are shown here

Decent playing?

I had an Odyssey. Got it around 1979.

Was a fun time. The company also were Uk distributors for Peavey.
