chiasticon wrote:so has anyone noticed that there seems to be way more arp 2600's listed on ebay recently? i see at least a few a week. granted, they're all $8k+... anyway, my hunch is that people are seeing how well the ms20 re-issue did, how good the karp ody sounds and are thinking "sell high now before they do a 2600!" if you look, original ody's are still pretty pricey, but original ms20's really haven't gone up in the last several years. i paid about $1300 for mine back in 2009 and i think you can get a pretty mint one for even cheaper now! anyway, just a thought...

related: i do hope they re-make the 2600, with all the filter options included. i have an original, but would really love a counterpart. i briefly had two and it was incredible but unjustifiable, money-wise. if one's a re-issue that's sub-$3k instead of $8k+, that's a different story...
Where are you seeing Arp Odysseys at $1300 or cheaper on ebay.
Most I've seen are averaging $1800 and up.
You got a great deal, even though it was 5 years ago.
I don't think people will be dumping their Arp 2600's for ANY reason. They will always be the holy grail and hold a relative good value, and a re-release won't knock the prices down for real collectors.

As we've heard from comments from owners of both the original Odyssey and the Korg version, the original still has the edge a wee bit in it's sound. Most reasons given are the age of the electronics.

Yeah, NOTHING looks as cool as a 2600. Except the Macbeth M5, maybe.

thank you, that makes a lot more sense.
As for me, I'm firing off a membership cancelation letter to the Evelyn Woods speed reading course.

I think the 2600 looks better the M5 if does not sound like a 2600 defies why it looks like one, likewise why did Korg have to reproduce the Odyssey in the same issues of colour why not a new colour after all its supposed to be a new synth.

Pretty sure Korg was not trying to make a new synth, but instead a fairly faithful recreation of the original, hence the color schemes...

Really? I thought they were trying to make a completely new design and it was just a coincidence that it happened to have the same name as a synth that already existed?

I think think Mr Macbeth decided to go with the 2600 interface look because it works so well.

"The ARP 2600 is the only synthesiser I can operate while I'm drunk", as one famous user is quoted to have said.

Without going back through the 44 pages (!) of this thread - what happened to the MKII version? Are they no longer releasing it?

Yes, they are still releasing it. Musician's Friend has it listed for an 4/17/15 shipping date.
After shipping the first run of the MKII to preorder customers, it was discovered there was a printing error on the front of the Korg Arp Odyssey MKII.
The LFO switch has the Sine wave symbol on the top of the switch, but also the Sine wave symbol on the bottom where there should be a square wave symbol.
