i like the idea of buying keys but i read somewhere that the xt has a vocoder?

As far as the vocoder function goes, all 3 versions can do it, IIRC. The XT and GT have it built in. The original requires a VC-2 card, which has become rather hard to find and expensive if you do find it.

I think the original has better interface of all 3. Xt has vc-1(virtual d-50) built in. The vc-1 card can be added to original.

Good point. The VC-1 (virtual D-50) and VC-2 (vocal designer) can be added to the original if you can find (and afford) them. The XT has them both built in. The GT has the VC-2 built in but NOT the VC-1, and there's no way to add it.

Do they? I thought I read somewhere that the GT didn't have the D50. Well, I can't remember where I read it, which probably translates to "somewhere on the internet." And I've only used the original. My apologies if I gave erroneous info.
