Roland SH-2 Oscillators superior to all the other SH series?

I've been playing an SH-2 for over a year now, and am madly in love with it. It is being loaned by a friend, however, so at some point i will need to return it.
The fact that draws me to this synth is in fact exactly what i find many others noting about it… the oscillators are just magical sounding.
I believe i heard/read somewhere that this synth's oscillators are discrete in design, which gives them this warmth and quality.
My question is, are the two other similar looking SH- synths oscillators the same? … the SH-1 and SH-09? Do all three of these synths have the same quality of oscillators?
If so, I'd probably want to have both the SH-1 and SH-2 eventually, since they each have their different benefits creatively. The SH-1 having more modulation, and the SH-2 having more oscillators.

ALSO. whats the deal with the SH synths that are constantly available on the bay from japan? Anyone have any experience with this seller?

wholly agree with you about the sh-2's oscillators.

I played an sh-1 once and the oscillators sounded different to me but that may just be in my mind.

the sh-9 has the exact same oscillators

I bought my sh-2 from Modeless Factory in Japan.

Are you talking about the seller "tokyowax"? If so, I can tell you he's awesome. I've bought quite a number of machines from him and never been disappointed.

If the seller from Japan you are talking about is the one who has pictures of their items on a fuzzy pink blanket (haha), I actually got my SH-101 from them over a year ago and had no issues. The shipping was a little expensive, but I remember it arrived in like three or four days and was packed well with tons of protective bubble wrap. The keyboard didn't work (which they stated in the auction), but everything was near mint and it even had the original mod grip. Took me a day to retrace the key contacts and everything has been working fine since. Only cost me like $550 total with shipping.

You should check out tokyowax's auctions, too. He always has tons of great stuff, as well as very clear pictures, and full disclosure of any known faults. Seems like a very ethical seller.

well, if the intro to "save a prayer" (and the sequence that runs throughout; in combo with a space echo) tells me anything about the SH-2's oscillators then I say... those are some nice oscillators!

SH09/2 are the same VCO, very similar to the late model Minimoog if I am correct. The SH1 is said to based around the System 700 VCO and does have a slightly different tone, but not massively.

A couple of the Japanese sellers are a little bit iffy, but a search on a couple of forums will point to them and of course the couple of excellent ones that there are.

we have an sh5 in our studio and have decided we didn't need any of the other sh's because it has the best feature set in the sh series. however, we havent compared it side by side to the other SHs. the sh101 is obviously quite a different sound, but if we compared it with the sh2/sh9 and sh1, we risk the danger of having to keep one of each of those as well! so, for now, we are fine with just the sh5

I heard somewhere that the SH5 is more desirable than SH7? Do they have drastically different features?

The SH7 lets you sync the VCOs. But the SH5 has something that is even cooler? Is it more or less screamin'?

well, *lets just put it this way*... when i wanna get jiggy with it, i reach for my sh5. it ShRedDdDdDz, Do0d! roland sure packed that thing with MASSIVE amounts of creamy goodness.

The SH5 has ring modulation but no hard sync. The SH7 has no ringmod but hardsync. And that weird additive sine wave mixer thingie.

From what I hear, the SH-7 has an all-around 'fuzzier/fizzier' tone to it. Might be true, but I dunno.

maybe the SH-7 is just PHAT, JUICY, CREAMY, RIPPING, SCREAMING ANALOGZZ
