Why a juno 60 ???

Post by KBD_TRACKER » Sun Mar 29, 2015 8:30 am

Looking at this video and listening to it ..... I could not help thinking (maybe uncharitably) what a waste of gear ...
How can one be convinced that a juno 60 was chosen by these people for its specific sonic character ????

But then, with repeated complacent camera shots on the clearly stenciled "Juno 60" behind the synth, and the overall "eye candy" character of the images, it's obviously all about marketing hype, rather than music.

I posted this rant ( ) because this issue seems to connect with the sometimes "complex" relationship between many people and vintage synths.

I'm confused...the rant is about what?

What are they marketing?

How is the gear being wasted?

Everybody and their uncles love the Juno, so why wouldn't this band love it too?

Props for the custom color Fender Musicmaster bass...looks cool but plays and sounds like c**p.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Marketing hype? For a synth that was discontinued over 30 years ago?

Since there is a contemporary keyboard (Nord) being used, your argument about vintage gear is invalid.

It's a music video for crissakes...Music videos are about imagery.

They play the Juno-60 on their records and on stage. Why wouldn't they play it in their modest video?

They probably just got given a bunch of synths to record with. Why not the juno 60? It has great chorus.

Are you being serious?

Why am I so often exposed to a bunch of nerds circling around an image of a woman, taking turns making them sound stupid? Nobody gave them their keyboards, they bought them. The video had a director. The band just stood in front of their gear while cameras filmed them.

It's always nice to see someone using a vintage piece. Sure it would be cooler if it was a Prophet 5, Jupiter 8, OB8, etc. but a Juno 60 isn't bad. Anybody recognize the other keyboard she is playing?

There is female-fronted band that I once saw on Letterman whose name I can't remember now and the girl singer always plays a Pro-One in their shows.
Prophet 5 rev.2, Pro-One, Juno 60, Jupiter 6, Matrix 12, OB8, MS20, Poly 800, CS70M, DX-7, CP35, Casio PX-5S, Hammond C3/M102, Vox Continental/Super Continental, Gibson G101, Farfisa Compact, RMI 300A, Pianet N, Combo Pianet, S770, S760, S50, NS3C

I think it's a good ol' microkorg.

I don't think the juno-60 got any more attention than the other instruments. Maybe, just maybe, she's using it because she likes it :?:

Ah. No, sorry - my comment was more along the lines of 'who cares?'

Obviously this mediocre synth is owned and used by this mediocre band. A band that probably does well thanks to the overall asthetic.

People are still prejudiced after countless 80's videos of "hot chicks" playing chords on an SH-101 or mashing random keys on a prophet-5 vaguely in sync with the music.

They're not music video actresses, they're touring musicians.

They do well because they tour regularly. Oldest trick in the book. What is wrong with you guys?
