Just an interesting question to raise....
I've been programming a lot with my RZ1 - 707 - 505 but just found that not having a 808 I couldn't touch the classics.
I've been getting around 70% of a vibe.
I think the 808 is endemic to JACKING House tracks more so than a 909.
Was just interested I what you guys thought about it.

Yes?
A lot of things can "touch the classics". If you want that sound, I'd get a TR8 and call it a day.

I think people tend to jack off to the 808 more than any other drum machine.

Not to be critical, but I would've chosen a different verb.

Just cover the drum machines with plastic.

If you must jack with an 808, please use a condom.

Re: Can you really JACK without a 808
IMO you have already got the right machines for making that sort of house music, I don't think you need an 808.
So many great tracks made without either of the Roland heavyweights. It's hard not to sound like old Chicago tracks using a 707...
Check some Dance Mania stuff for great use of the little DR660!

Do you want to get rid of your RZ-1? PM me for trade info!
If you just want beefy analog style kicks and snares, you could get a TR-8. If you just want a really beefy kick, get a Korg Volca Beats.
