Hi, I was wondering what sort of equipment you guys think is used on these tracks? I think the production on it sounds really out-dated, over-compressed and muddy but I really enjoy it... But that's not what I'm talking about. How would one create a lot of sounds in this song?


Specifically the opening 'twinkle' melody? I know there's actually not a lot here. I hear a string synth with mostly just bells layered on top of it. I hear a clav in there at times during the chorus. The bass is pretty simple.. I think a Korg Poly-800 and Yamaha DX7 could've been used.


Oh, and here's another one. The intro of this song. I've heard that synth pad before. I think it was in a popular 80's movie but I can't put my finger on it.. Why do I think ET?

The intro to the second one is a typical 80s type David Foster sound - bells and strings, an "LA-type layer" (as in Los Angeles) or, as me and my mates used to call this stuff "A Bit Disney..".

What was used really depends on the era, certainly a lot of this stuff was done on romplers of the time - eg, in the 90s, the JV-1080 type module was used a lot for computer games or low budget animation, similarly for the Korg M1 and so on.
