maybe you were just using it the wrong way! when you use it as a parallel compression, with the fastest attack/release setting and you're making dirty boombap beats, this compressor is the dogs danglers! yeah so it was under £100. but it's so disgusting on drums that it's under-rated in my opinion. It should be up there with the dirt box compressors hall of fame along with the alesis 3630!
discuss.
Whoever said the DBX 266XL compressor is bad is lying!

It's not bad, it's utilitarian. It doesn't do anything that you couldn't do with any other run of the mill compressor. I guess the gearslutz frown on it though

lol if it's not a $9000 and up compressor with valves/tubes in they're not interestedmadtheory wrote:It's not bad, it's utilitarian. It doesn't do anything that you couldn't do with any other run of the mill compressor. I guess the gearslutz frown on it though
seriously though before I bought it I was trying to find some reviews on it, first google searches are about 5 hate threads from the gearslutz team haha.
of course if I had the money I'd buy something like the drawmer 1960 or even just the DL241! but I just thought I'd give a run of the mill compressor the benefit of the doubt and found it actually suited to the style of music I did!
@ Yekuku yeah it deffo colours the sound. I'm no expert / connoisseur or something but it just has this mid range squish squash about it. hard to describe. I'll do a demo of it soon

Good choice, the Drawmer is over rated imo. I don't think they ever made a decent compressor. They got their rep from the gates.
