I'd like to buy the right mic

Post by meneedit » Tue Jul 31, 2007 9:31 am

Hey all,

I want to buy a really good mic for recording vocals as well as a pop filter.

I'm looking at spending $300 AUD. I am aware that most good microphones cost more than that but that is all I can afford.

I'm also wondering if microphones have improved over the years. It's just that every mic that I have used has been very bass sensitive.

I would like to also buy a mic suited to recording from instruments e.g. Flutes, acoustic guitars, etc... so if you lot could recommend a mic for that I would also be reeeeeally happy :)

Thank you very much :) :) :)

P.S

could somebody please tell me if there are special recording techniques for recording from wind instruments?

thanks again.

Røde makes great mics and they are based in Australia. I recommend the NT2-A. It has won several awards, so I am not the only one that thinks there is something to it. They go for about $399.97 (US) here in the states. I would think you would be able to get them cheaper there.

good suggestion, I have great experience with the NT series. I've bought the NT1 a long time ago and the people in the studio are happy. I wonder that the NT2A is an improved version of that great budget mic with way more flexiblity for many recording task that he might required.

I'll second the Rode endorsement. I have an NT2000 which may be a bit out of your price range, but it's still a killer mic and I would definitely buy any one of their other mics without hesitating based on my experience.

gotta love the audio technica stuff...seriously a lot of mic packed into small prices...I could see collecting mics becoming a fetish...

friend had a Røde NT2 [I think, pattern switch on front] that I used once, also a nice mic...

And I am not positive, but I think that the guys from the flaming lips used some Røde mics on their last album as well...
