Classes on Mixing, EQ, Compression etc in NYC?

Post by JSRockit » Fri Aug 03, 2007 6:16 pm

Anyone know where I can take a class in NYC that will teach mixing, EQ, compression, etc...but doesn't make you have to take the whole program to get one class?

That's a lot of s**t to cover in just one class.

Honestly man, books are where it's at. If you haven't already, look into the Mixing Engineer's Handbook by Bobby Owsinsky and Understanding Audio by Daniel M. Thompson. Owsinski has another book called the Recording Engineers Handbook which is more about mics and tracking than anything else, but I assume you know how to record things, and judging by your setup and the type of music you make, you seldom need to worry about proper mic placement and all that jazz. However, if you just like knowing as much as possible, that's also a good book to pick up.

If you're really serious about it though, I would look into SAE http://www.saeny.com/

10 months or 2 years depending on how in-depth you want to go.

Either that, or just ask as many questions as you can here. I think there's enough cumulative knowledge among these forums to help you with anything you need to know.

I didn't mean one class as in one session...just not a degree...the one class can take months as far as I'm concerned. I've tried books...but sometimes I just learn better in a classroom environment that is hands on...so someone can show me what I'm doing wrong.

Ah, sorry, misunderstood. I don't know anything off the top of my head, but I'll ask around. You should try and go to AES this October, it's in NYC, you might find exactly what you're looking for there.
