So I've Ordered an MBox 2 Pro Factory...

Should arrive within a week or so.

Bought it 'cause I need to use Pro Tools for my course, also because i find working with audio much easier in Tools than in Logic (my primary DAW)

Anyone else using one on a PC here that can let me know what I'm in for?

disappointment?

imho Midiman (now M-audio) should stay out of the audio chain and stick to MIDI.

Cripes, you have to buy an E-mu 'm'-class just to get the same Pro Tools HD converters for under a grand, because you sure don't get them with an m-box. And USB is not designed for piping audio.
Spend a little more on Apogee or RME and leave the whole mess behind.

Pro-Tools is losing ground anyways; there's a reason they're derrogitorally referred to as 'For Fools'. Overpriced and underspecified, imho.

the MBox 2 Pro is a firewire interface, so no USB issues there

it's also a big upgrade from my old fca 202, so no disappointment there

i've had it for a bit over a week now, and i'm really enjoying using it, both with tools and logic

For a start, the MBox is made by Digidesign, not M-Audio. The only thing they have in common is that they're both owned by Avid.

Secondly, just because E-mu use the same convertors as PTHD doesn't mean they'll sound the same, or even similar. The Behringer ADA8000 uses the same convertors as the Apogee Rosetta but doesn't sound anywhere near as good, due to having a worse analogue stage, clock, etc.

Granted the hardware that comes with PTLE isn't as good as most stuff available for the same price but the software is worth the difference. There's a learning curve (it's called Pro Tools after all) but once you get right into the program it's incredibly powerful for editing audio. Not midi though.

that's exactly why i bought the package - I've been using PT LE (and HD) heavily at school, and the ease of which i can manipulate audio sh*ts over logic - which is what i use primarily

Thanks for the correction, Stab. I only ranted 'cause my friend was slugging through the Mbox 1 on his Mac for a couple years. USB and latency p/o 'ed him and I had to always re-optimize it for him. I'm sure part of it was his relative inexperience w/ computers. I didn't mean to fluster you buddy.

yeah I've used the original MBox and the MBox 2, both USB 1.1, at school, and they're a real headache - hence why i sprung extra and went for the firewire Pro model
