MIDI-assisted program setups

Post by brianos » Thu Jan 10, 2008 12:29 am

I've been playing keys for many years, but haven't dug too deeply into the world of MIDI. I have 3 synths in my rig & many custom patches & "mixes" (as Alesis calls them) programmed for specific songs. Now that my band has several dozen tunes worked up, I'm thinking there must be a better way to prepare for a song than consulting a paper "cheat sheet" and pushing buttons like mad to get the 3 boards ready.

How do other keyboardists deal with this situation? Are there dedicated midi controllers I should look into? Or should I create sequences to send controller messages to each board? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

When I'm doing a live set I just save all my patches one after the other so I can just hit the up button for each patch change. I have them written on a sheet but I find I don't have to look at it cause I just learn what needs to be used when through practicing.
