MBox Question!

Post by just_cast » Tue Jan 15, 2008 1:38 am

Hi i just bought a mackie 12 channel mixer and i want to hook it up to my mbox mini. I watched the dvd it came with but it didnt really answer my question. All i want is to use my Mackie as the mixer so i can input more than
2 instruments ( Mbox Mini only allows for 2 inputs) I also have a akai mpc 2000xl, and what ive been doing was recording my samples on one input and the other input i record my beats, but with only 2 inputs i cant even add vocals. And also when i try to add live beats to my samples i hear it my beats get played back twice as im programming them, but when i play it back it sounds normal, any idea on what that can be? Any help will be highly appreciated.

your mixer should have many different outputs...main, control room, mix b, and so on.....just hook thoe free output to your mbox and you should be fine.

be prepared to do lots of overdubs

You can't record more than two inputs with the MBox Mini, but you could mix down multiple inputs to two with the Mackie.

If it's an Onyx you can't use the firewire interface with Pro Tools, Pro Tools will only run with a Digidesign interface.

So what would i need if i want to record my vocals, samples, drum machine, + 2 instruments? Will i need a different interface? What im doing right now is a lot of overdubbing , and just having to inputs sucks. =\

If you don't want to overdub you could either buy a 003 or buy different software to track in, then transfer to Pro Tools for mixing if you're a fan of mixing in Tools.

That second option's if you have the Onyx mixer and firewire expansion of course, if you've got a VLZ then you'd need to buy a new interface as well.

003 is a solution, but quite expensive.

You can find a M-Audio interface (ProjetctMix for example, with 8 inputs channel) for less, and it's also compatible with ProTools
It is much easier to be a good equipment purchaser than to be a great musician.

Not with Pro Tools LE it isn't, you'd have to shell out for M-Powered.

I think it might be worth clearing up that you can only record two tracks simultaneously. You can obviously record as many tracks as you like, just not at the same time.
