1. this goes in sound production

2. for 600 bucks i doubt its better than a sherman filterbank, but its hard to say.

3. sound on sound review http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/may05/a ... onevf1.htm

I've seen the review... seems nice
The sherman filter which I have just heard over the internet' sounds very aggressive while I'm looking for something that will warmth my sound and will make it sweeter.

That's because the people who post demos of the sherman online don't have a clue how to use it.
That said, it's not the fastest or most simple way of warming/sweetening sound.

OH NOES!

the sherman can have some very nice subtle effects, but it takes a bit of work. the easiest thing to do with a sherman is to tear things apart, but it is not all it can do.

The real irony is that I'm now patching up my EuF to do nasty FSU things involving FM and very fast LFOs.

The VF-1 is superb; I use mine (combined with a Korg KP3) as a quick extra sheen for my P08 - the quality of the knobs and soft-touch buttons is great; you want instant bandpass on that Prophet, no problem sir! The overdrive sounds great too. Overall it is very simple and direct. The only annoyance is having to power off/on for certain MIDI functions.

Quite different to the Sherman - it's stereo for one thing plus it sounds sweet and smooth, being useable for pretty much anything including a complete mix.
