Mixers w/ Fire-Wire or USB diff ???

Hey everybody -
Kind of a newbie here but have really been looking to go
digital. My needs are fairly small and simple doing ambient
and Dark-wave mostly.
I saw Mackie has an Onyx 2pre-a. firewire pod/station
that could be combo'd up with a little Mackie 6 channel -
But also have seen the new Allen & Heath ZED-14 Mixr with a USB
live transfer they claim is more quiet than most other USB stuff
due to power buff within the USB connection itself.
??? My question ??? Is USB on a nicer brand like Allen & Heath
going to be just as good as FireWire from a Mackie 12/16 F.W.option
mixer and/or Pod-Station ? I can't see where I'd overload the A/D
process as I only record up to 3 or 4 things at once live- + and that's
alot for me.
Thanks ahead of time if anybody has 2 cents they'd like to throw in.
