Culture Vulture vs Fatso

Post by TJR » Fri Apr 11, 2008 6:58 pm

anybody have either of the 2 to give their personal review? I basically want to warm up my Virus TI and even the other analog synths that I have. I also want to experiment running the master through the unit for overall warmth. I produce dance music so I won't be using guitars or acoustic drums. Or if someone else uses a unit similiar to the 2 I mentioned. Thanks.

I would be impressed if somebody here owned both.

Im assisting in a studio with a culture vulture and damn that is one freaking nice distortion-unit. It completely crushes every sound in it's own unique way. It's also extremely versatile. Thumbs up for the culture vulture.

The dude that mixed our album had a Fatso. I heard first-hand how it transformed "normal" sounds into remarkable ones. Can't really provide any in-depth commentary about it, but it really sounded great. I'm eagerly waiting for the UAD version of Fatso 8)

I'm sure the Culture Vulture sounds awesome, too.

I've mainly heard it f0k up bass guitars which it's great at. Never heard it on main though.

It seems like either way you go you can't "fail". Both are high quality units.

hello, i have a culture vulture that i use in my home studio. it is indeed a sweet a*s distortion unit. and even though it is stereo i find that the two channels sound a bit different from each other, which i kind of like. the right side def sounds more like hissy tape. i mean both sides can, but the right does so more. i like running anything and everything through it, but try to use it sparingly also for final tracks. if you would like to hear an example of it used on vocals please feel free to check out my bands song, "bad employee," at www.myspace.com/bademployees

ok cool, i'll check it out. I just bought one on ebay a few weeks ago. I've been running drums, hats, vocals, synths, etc.. basically everything through it. I really like it so far but I'd love to have the fatso to compare!
