Effect unit with sampler functions (like Alesis Quadraverb?)

Post by portland » Thu May 15, 2008 4:59 am

I have a SDD3300 which has a fun sampling function which can trigger three samples by MIDI. This is great for drums / effects / hits / WEIRD CROAKS but not for melodic playing of samples because you have to change the pitch with a slider. Anyway, I really like this kind of sampling because it's immediate, sounds unique, and it's fun. I also like that it's NOT a sampler, it's an effect unit.

So are there any of effect units that can do this, other than some expensive Eventide? Any that can play samples via MIDI melodically? Polyphony is not necessary, or expected.

I heard the Quadraverb can, and I like the idea of that unit because it's cheap and Hector Zazou recommends it. Can anyone give me the specifics on the sampling function in that? I tried looking at a PDF of the manual, but I couldn't really read it easily. Any other opinions on the quadraverb? The reviews are surprisingly positive for a unit of its social class...

EDIT: Yes, it seems to Quadraverb PLUS can do what I wish. Any comments on the Quadraverb or other effects units appreciated.

This BOSS RSD-10 is pretty cool, but I don't really need another delay unit since the Korg SDD3300 surpasses this unit.

That's kind of how the S612 works isn't it?

It is getting into that territory, but a full-on sampler is not necessary or desirable in this case.

Ibanez DM1100 has an Hold-function which can sample about 1 sec or so and loop it. Nothing else, but it's same in Quadraverb, no?
