Question about mixer channel inserts

Can they be used to send the post mixed signal directly out like direct outs?

Pre-mix usually. Most channel inserts are after the preamp gain but before all other controls. Check the mixer manual to be sure.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
