Interesting, looks a lot like the Sonic Alienator. Let us know what you think when it arrives.

Before I've entered this topic, I thought that you've bought an actual Geiger counter ;-)

That's fightin' talk, JS!

Anyway, sounds really cool if you're looking for that whole bit-crushing, digital aliasing sort of thing. Oh and it certainly qualifies as a bit of a party piece when it comes to outboard processors.

Oh and I'm really diggin' the design. :)

give some feedback after running some drum machines through it if possible, as your impulse buy might lead to another...

Demos are mostly essential, mostly.

Nah, I didn't mean it that way... I just meant that $300 isn't crazy money. It's a lot for sure, but at 35 years old with a decent job, you can make an impulse purchase of $300 sometimes. Some people spend $300 on a dinner for two around here. Some people waste $300 in vegas. I spend $300 and if I don't like it, sell it for about 75% of what I bought it for...

I just got the GC last night...and I didn't stay at my apt last night, so I didn't use it yet. Also, I no longer have a machinedrum... I'm done with wrestling with that machine.

Ok, so I got this thing... it goes from subtle to crazy really quick (like these effects tend to)... if you put it on the mix out of a drum machine, you don't hear much difference from a software bit decimator / sample rate reduction device. However, you have some tone controls and wave forms...plus the preamp then distorts on top of the usual aliasing...not sure how useful this is to me... but maybe to Trent Reznor or those who like the crazier side of Metasonix. What I did like is when I used it on the individual outs of my 888... BDs sounded lame at minimal settings ie not like a cool sampler but like a plug-in... but at more extreme settings had a nice, crazy distortion. Where I did like the subtle sample rate reduction and bit rate reduction was on samples coming out of the 888... it added even more dirt to the 888's 8-bit samples...and didn't sound like software. Also, snares sounded kind of cool. I also ran the x0xb0x through it and found it could add some subtle distortion and aliasing that would work as long as I put some reverb around the sound. I only spent about an hour with it and will make some examples soon.
