I would consider a solid state pedal, the Crowther Hotcake. Tubes aren't magic, a lot of the cheap tube overdrives I've heard don't sound as good as really well designed solid state ones.

The Hotcake is the thickest, warmest overdrive I've ever come across. They don't seem to be that well known in a lot of places, but most of the local bands I mix have at least one. I've never heard a better overdrive for organ ever, and is great on synths too but like most guitar pedals you have to make sure the gain setup is right.

That looks more like a distortion pedal than overdrive

Depending on where you set the knobs it does everything from nothing to distortion, but most of the range is from overdrive to subtle bluesy distortion. You said you wanted warm and thick overdrive, it's the best for that IMO.

Stab, the Hotcake appears to be a pedal that is supposed to work in conjunction with other drive pedals, when it comes to guitars. Would you say then, that it would have no trouble adapting to line levels, and still have similar flexibility?
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

received my EHX hot tubes today... have only run guitar through it, but my first reaction - f**k GREAT distortion. disregarding miscellaneous fuzz pedals, it's the nicest warm overdrive up to massive crunch i've experienced. add simple EQ and run it through a clean tube amp as well... awesome.

What gives you that idea? I know a lot of people who use it as their sole overdrive pedal, as well as some who use it with others. It adapts fine to line level in my experience, just set up your gain structure properly and you shouldn't have any problems.

Mostly, the tonefactor review. Apparently I have misunderstood. :sign6: The video on that page makes it more clear. Thanks for the recommendation, it does give a nice, thick sound. I'll check this one out.
