Anyone have first hand experience using a Netbook PC "Asus EeePc, or Acer Aspire One" with either Cubase or Ableton Live?
-Any performance issues?
-Will the Atom processor handle audio recording?
-Will a netbook pc scream for mercy, wile using VST softsynths? such as Waldorf's Largo.
I currently use my AMDx2 3.2ghz desktop rig for audio work.
The laptop I own now is roughly eight years old, running a old Pentium4 mobile processor at 1.6ghz with 512mb ram. I can't do anything except web browsing with it.
A netbook seems to be an affordable, portable, pocket sized solution, to my live rig. (if it works)
any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
thanks!

Re: Netbook's & Recording software ??
I had a dual-core 1.4ghz atom netbook and it was too slow and the screen too small to get anything done on it.
Largo is apparently a CPU hog. I do not suggest you try this.
For ~$500 or less you can get a 2ghz+ dual-core 64-bit athlon machine from somewhere like tigerdirect. It's still cheap and runs everything you'll need like a dream. Don't waste your time on a netbook unless you're only doing midi sequencing with it (and even that no guarantee you'll get your lag down low enough to use)

A netbook will bring far more frustration that what it's worth for audio production. I suggest you look at ADK's laptops. Not cheap, but guaranteed to work for all things audio (it's what they're built for!)
I plan on getting one myself: ADK Laptops

@Thomas- thanks for the heads up, I will continue my search for a budget solution.
I would prefer to keep it below $300.
a $120 used netbook fits my spending limit, however there is no point in wasting money on one if its not up to standard.

I'm not sure where lost in ohio is ? Look for an old mac g5 tower or even g4 tower. They can still run great music programs, unless you h**l bent on using a laptop only.

I thought about the Mac solution, so I built myself a OSX86 hackintosh box
Not totally h**l bent on using a laptop, just a portable solution to recording live audio and using VSTi's.
A all-in-one PC would also do the trick maybe.
