It does if you mean boutique gear that adds harmonic distortion. Most of it does.

It's only easier because a line level transformer for balancing is not as common as it should be. What kind of engineers are we talking about here? "Sound" engineers? Or sound engineers who understand a bit of electronic engineering?

Yeah, I'm a little confused at this point...plugging a DI into a mic lead? What exactly does that refer to?

If you don't know, you don't need a DI, you need to read...

Exactly, DIs into boutique pres and boutique DIs with gain all add harmonic distortion. Saying "the one that adds harmonic distortion is better" doesn't actually add any information. It's like saying the cars that have wheels are better. ;)
