Adding more ins to my Fireface 800.

Post by Joey » Thu Oct 28, 2010 2:58 am

hey all.

So I'm basically out of ins on my fireface 800, and really need more to get done what I need to do.

the ff800 has 10 analog ins and 8 outs, and I have it going through a presonus central station for volume control - though I'd really like to get rid of the CS

currently my setup is:

guitars - input 1 front
modular - input 1 back
ms20 - input 2
spx50d - inputs 3/4
k2vx - inputs 5/6
virus TI - inputs 7/8 back
machinedrum - inputs 7/8 front.
vocals - input 9
sherman - input 10

- that basically covers it.

what I'd like to be able to do are a few things.

I'd like to make use of all the individual outs for the machinedrum, which means 6 ins for the machinedrum at any time.

I've also got a cwejman AI-2 which gives me a stereo XLR pair of outputs from the modular (which I'd really like to make use of - currently I send everything back into my cwejman s1 which gets converted to a balanced xlr out and sent to the FF800).

I'd also really love to get rid of the central station, because I hear it colors your output in a bad way even though it is advertised as passive.

the k2vx is kind of on the way out, so I may be able to get two extra inputs for the MD, but that still isn't enough.

so yeah, what are my options.

daisy chaining firefaces is one - but I hear on the RME forum that it isnt such a good idea, and it doesn't really get rid of the central station for me.

another thing that has been suggested is getting a behringer ada 800 with the black lion mod, but the name behringer kind of makes me a bit queasy.

so yeah...

any suggestions guys? :)

I'm looking for something similar for my Traveler, and I've decided to go with a Focusrite Octopre MkII Dynamic. I don't really care one way or the other about the compressors in it (would probably prefer not to have them actually) but the Dynamic has DA as well as AD.

The Dynamic model has 8 channels of digital inputs via ADAT lightpipe, the vanilla Octopre mkII does not.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.
