Identity of a pedal / Delay pedals for layering

Post by rharris07 » Tue Nov 02, 2010 8:43 pm

first off - I'm curious if someone can confirm that the pedal here is a line 6 dl4...or is it something else that looks close to that? I'm almost certain its the line 6...

Second - anyone have any suggestions on delay pedals for live synth layering? I'm making some slightly distorted ambient music recently, and would really like to be able to layer live with delays...anything really interesting out there that could be suggested for something like this? Aside from delays - any particular looper pedals that are AFFORDABLE and have some neat tricks?

The reason I'm asking to confirm if thats a line 6 delay pedal is because I've been listening to this girl's music a lot lately and her layering sounds awesome...so I'd like to see if whatever she is using would work for me in what I'm doing...

I'd like warm, lengthy delays...

yes it is a line 6 DL4. i have two because i use them for looping. it has some nice delay emulations though too, just have other pedals that cover delay for me. used to have a boss RC-50, wind up missing it pretty often...

think the only delays i've used live w/ synths are my 201, 301 & MO-FX. DL4's i've just used w/ guitar.

edit: who is she?

Definitely the Line 6 delay modeler.

Speaking of a RC-50, I believe the other pedal is an RC-20.

Yeah I think other pedal is an RC20, but I never cared for it every time I heard it at guitar center. The DL4 I'm watching videos for right now, and it sounds amazing with guitar...I'm assuming, if used correctly, it could be the same for synth.

The looping capabilities also make this pedal very attractive for me...I think I'm going to have to pick it up.

As for the girl - her name is Christelle Gualdi; her music project name is Stellar Om Source.

Anyone have any thoughts on Nova Delay vs. DL4?

haven't had a nova, but delays i have / have had...

DL4
DD5
memory boy
deluxe memory boy
RE-201
RE-301
DC-50
echo pro
MO-FX
GS-10
rockman stereo echo
yamaha E1005

probably forgetting others i've had in the past.
(edit: yup forgot the E1005 i still have...)
DL4 / echo pro are definitely the most diverse. tape's my favorite though.

Eventide Timefactor kills them both. The Timefactor Tape Echo algorithm sounds like exactly what you want, it's two independent 3 second delays, but you can chain one into the other if you're running mono.

For a straight-up looper check out the Jam Man, the RC-20XL is good but I've seen too many that have died, the firmware is very fragile. The entire firmware can be erased if you unplug while saving.

Or if you've got the money to spend get an Eclipse for all your looping and effecting needs and never need worry about whether there's something better out there.

Yep. Killed my delay lust right in it's steps. Of course, it ramped up my Eventide lust...

You will eventually. :D It's pretty great, after wanting one for years I finally got one, now I just need a PCM90 and I'm good for fx, up until I decide an H8000FW seems like a good idea...

yes...i've watched videos on that H8000 so many times...it just seems too good to be true. though that 5 thousand dollar price tag is just f**k insane.
