Older video sources having more punch and bass?

Check this out:


It's a completely different version of Tainted Love, as it's an older demo from 1980. But there's a lot of bass and punch to it that probably wouldn't quite be there if it weren't on tape. The audio quality isn't the best, but I really like the way it ended up sounding after 31 years.

Same goes for this (please excuse the ad):


I can't tell if this was mixed differently or what, but it's got a little more kick to it than the album version I have.


What exactly is happening here? Is it all in my head?
