Reason, Renoise, Fruity Loops or other?

I'm buying a sequencer for Windows, but if it will work on Mac it will great.

Since my setup is 100% hardware it as to control very well MIDI devices, of course
I need to record to harddisk.

A vertical piano roll will be great.

Renoise lacks a piano roll reditor. That being said its pretty much ruined hardware sequencing and sampling for me.

Maybe Renoise's tracker sequencing interface is what he's after?

Concerning Reason as an option, its MIDI capabilities are rather limited, basic even.

There are demos available of all products you mentioned, maybe you could try them all and see what gels best?

Hi guys,
thank you for your replays.

I was temped to go to Reason but since optimus prime says the the MIDI capabilities are basic, I
will reconsider.

In this moment I'm evaluating all the software.

How about Ableton Live? There may still be some strange solutions MIDI wise present in Live, but for me it's worked great

If you want great MIDI control of hardware you want either Cubase or Sonar, because both evolved from MIDI sequencing programs of the late 80s.

Also remember that MOTU Digital Performer is now Windows-compatible too, and has a similar MIDI-focussed history.

I've been trialing it on Win7 and it's been working very well for a recent port.

Ableton Live. A bit of a learning curve, but then again, all programs like that will have one. Download the demo and tool around for a while.

For a badass tracker, go to revisit.info

See it in action here (well, action. 'replaying' it is):

It's a VST, so it runs in a DAW, controlling other VST instruments. At the same time, the communication protocol is just MIDI, so by wiring the whole shebang within the DAW you could also control your outboard synths 'n things.

I used to sequence hw in fruityloops. It is a great sequencer, but recording sucks. Its a shame too, because I preferred the layout and workflow of it over the other daws I've tried. Fl's Edison is a joke. I sequenced in Fl on one computer, and recorded in reaper on another. It was clumsy, but now I use a hardware sequencer. Everyone disses Fl, but I will still use it for any songs featuring mostly soft synths

I don't mind Edison at all, especially it's iterations in FL 10 onwards. Quite simple to use.

Out of those 3, FL Studio is best for MIDI. However, I would say Live has better overall MIDI implementation, but I prefer FL due to it's easy to use piano roll.
