SCI Pro-One vs Moog Source
I'm thinking of trying to buy a Source, but if I did that my Pro-One would have to go. How do they compare as far as modulation options go? From a first look they seem pretty similar. I read the Source has sample and hold but is this only achieved through certain settings? There isn't any blatant sample and hold button on the keypad from what I see. And yeah, the membrane keypad doesn't bother me so much, but the Pro-Ones CV controls seem to be better? You have filter in and a regular trigger in/out, the Source has din-sync. Does the Pro-One communicate better with external gear? How does the internal sequencers compare to each other?
I love the Moog sound, but I appreciate the Pro-One quite a bit. I was under the assumption the Pro-One was simply a one voice Prophet 5, but upon A/B'ing them, they sound quite different (at least to my ears.) The Pro-One sounds very warm and the Prophet 5 has a bit more of that smoother Curtis chip sound (I'm using a Rev 3, can't comment on the Rev 2's.) But the Moog sound is even warmer, I'd be disappointed if I got a Source and its tone was different than what I would expect.

Re: SCI Pro-One vs Moog Source
If modulation is your thing the Source is not for you and the Pro-One is by far a better option. The Source doesn't even do PWM and has relatively limited routings. Having said that, the Source's hard sync sound is the best ever, bar none. Both have rudimentary sequencers that are slaved to the LFO speed, but I found the one on the Pro-One to be more friendly and straightforward to use.
Sonically, the Pro-One is much more cutting yet somewhat less thick. The Source does those lovely, rolling bass sounds, but isn't nearly as capable of wackiness as the Pro-One. Modern equivalents would be like comparing an XS to a Little Phatty. Both are good, but keep in mind too that you lose presets with the Pro-One.

Source sounds lovely but is very basic - just bass and leads.
Pro One main strength IMO is its modulation. I much prefer the Source sound tho...both is best.

Re: SCI Pro-One vs Moog Source
I presume you mean you'll have to sell the Pro 1 to fund the Source purchase? Don't do it. You'll seriously regret letting go of your Pro 1, even if you don't like the overall sound as much as the Source. There's just too many things it can do that the Source can't, and Pro 1's aren't so easy to come by these days, so you'd have a difficult and expensive time getting another in the future. Just wait until you've got enough spare cash to buy a Moog without having to sell anything.
Re: SCI Pro-One vs Moog Source
FWIW, I do not regret selling my Pro~One. The only thing I miss is certain crossmod basses that no other synth can do, but of course that's just one person's opinion. I bought a Voyager to replace it, and have been quite satisfied.
I am no longer in pursuit of vintage synths. The generally absurd inflation from demand versus practical use and maintenance costs is no longer viable. The internet has suffocated and vanquished yet another wonderful hobby. Too bad.

Cool, thanks for the info. I also have a Moog Prodigy, so that covers the great Moog sound for me. I was thinking of selling both and getting the Source, to sort of consolidate the two. But I figured I would regret selling the Pro-One.

I think you should keep your Pro-One/Prodigy combo!

I read somewhere that the Prodigy and Source use the same guts, though obviously the Source is under microprocessor control. I'd stay with what you've got.

A Source for a Pro One is a shitty trade off.
If you are going Moog, I would go Multimoog, Prodigy, even Phatty.
