Alpha Juno 2 vs. Polysix (which one should I take home?)

Post by hageir » Sun Aug 02, 2009 7:48 am

I like 'em both,
I've thought about this for quite some time :)

I'm in NYC right now and I've bought a couple of synths;
Alpha Juno 2, Polysix, Six-Trak and Poly-61.
I'm selling the Poly-61 and I'm definitely taking the Six-Trak (love it!) but I'm trying to decide between the Polysix and the Alpha Juno..

I love the ensemble effect on the Polysix and the filter..
I love the sound of the Alpha Juno but it's editing is pretty boring, but do-able! (I can also use my PCR-M1 to edit it; Roland released a PG-300 template for it!)
I also like that classic Roland pitch-bender!

Anyone had both?
Which one do you love more? :)

Take the Polysix home. They will probably be impossible to fine in Iceland whereas I'm sure Junos would be much more attainable there or from Europe or will be cheaper to ship. Better yet just go home with the Polysix and buy an MKS-50 in awhile.

yeah, that is true (although I got a really broken Polysix for free in Iceland once! :))
A couple of my friends have Alpha Junos as well
but I'm also thinking; should I sell the Polysix while I'm here and buy the stuff that I really need?
Like an MPC and some other stuff..

God damn it, it's hard to choose!

Well you make a point there. Polysixes sell for funny money now.

If you want other things before you head back I say do it. The SixTrak will cover a lot of ground of the Polysix and if you can sell the Polysix and buy an MPC3000 (the only one worth having IMHO) before you go back then it will be worth it. Or buy other things.

If the Polysix works I'd definitely hang on to it!

+1 polysix. The on-board BBD analog-delay effects (ensemble, chorus, phaser) sets this board very far above the SixTrak. If you take the P6 then CHECK THE BATTERY as you very well may know....sounds like you're dealing with people that may have already taken care of any issues.

Take the PolySIX. It's (IMHO) vastly superior to the Alpha Juno.

I've made my decision:
I'm taking the Alpha Juno :)

..Only because I sold the Polysix!

Scheize! That's 85.000 ISK!

I got my Polysix in Amsterdam for €350 in 2007 when things were still good up there = 30.000 ISK.

I know for a fact that there is a bunch of Polysixes in Iceland, so don't worry.

The Alpha Juno is also a lot handier to transport (especially the 1 though) so I think you are making the right choice.
Monkey business since 2007!

Oooooh,
I wrote so much and then it didn't go through! :(

Anyways,
h**l yes,
I won an Alpha Juno 1 in it's original plastic case on ebay so I'm probably taking that home instead :)

I got a broken Polysix for free once in Iceland, I sold it for 6000 ISK; $100 then..
I'll probably find another one at home, now that I'm an expert in fixing them!

If you ever have keyboard problems with yours, I know one magic trick!

What did you buy with the proceeds of the Polysix?
