Roland: JD-990 - XV-5050 - XV-5080

Post by Dalmation » Sat Mar 19, 2011 12:22 am

The XV-5050 has many more waveforms in ROM than the XV-5080 but it's only a 1U dimension so doesn't have the same front panel.
Are they the same in terms of core/internal architectures and sonic quality?

Also - I understand the XV-5080 has some(or all?) of the waves from the JD-990.
So how compatible are the XV-5050/XV-5080 with JD-990 patches?

* I do understand the 5050 doesn't have the sample memory/sample playback capabilities as the 5080 does... then neither does the JD-990 ^_^

Korg - did a similar thing with their Wavestation series in the form of the Wavestation-SR. ie. bundled up the complete architecture + more patch ROM + more user RAM, all in an economical 1U module!

Thanks,
Dal.
