Recommendation for a synth to start with

Hi guys.
I am looking for a synth to start with and my budget is 550$+-, at first I thought about the Korg MS20mini but I really don't like the way it sounds. I am interested in metallic sounds for dub techno, minimal House, and I consider buying the Arturia Minilogue. Does someone have any recommendations?
BTW, this is my first synth but I am not afraid of patching and so on, I am an electrical engineer so I have some knowledge and I really want to explore more. Thus far I liked some Moog synths (like the Moog Mother 32) but I guess they are out of my budget :D

Metallic sounds for $550?

Arturia microFreak for $299.



I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Microfreak is a perfect shout. If you’re looking around, also a lot of the Mutable Instruments synths, or Korg Minilogue.

The Behringer Crave at $250 is a pretty good copy of the Mother 32.
