Post by just_cast » Tue Sep 02, 2008 9:28 pm

I been wanting to just make some demos with some good horns in it. Any suggestion on a cheap combination of midi keyboard and Sound Module /Rack ( one that has a decent horn sounds) ? My price range is 600-900.

Matrix 1000.
real analog Oberheim brass is 'teh shizit'. For around 250-300 USD.
Angel trumpets, and Devil trombones, to be presice. Hear All Proper!

On the ROMpler side there's the Roland JV's, Proteus racks, and Kurzweil stuff that do it well afaik. And many others.

As for what to buy for MIDI keys - whatever controller feels good.
they're generally pretty sheep...i mean...cheap. #-o

Does it have to be a controller/module combo? If you're open to keyboard synths the Roland D-50 and Kawai K5000W can both be had for under your budget and have great horn sounds, to my ears at least. Well the don't sound exactly like horns but they sound good.

There's an old Kurzweil module that's all sampled horn sounds...K1000HX. If you can find one it would probably be quite cheap.

Also any version of the EmU Proteus with the orchestral soundset.
I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Yes, they'd be a bit of a waste of space if they didn't.
