Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
I recently got an offer for a straight up trade for my polar for a 32 voice waldorf Q keyboard...
this offer has been pretty tempting, as i'm a big fan of the waldorf sound, and haven't been very inspired/happy/satisfied with the virus lately
the virus is my main axe, so this would be a major change in my whole sound really
i need some advice guys
waldorf users please chime in!

Re: Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
darker, dirtier, and with sweet fx traded away for brighter, cleaner, and with ho-hum fx.
a generalization to be sure, but I say it based on my experience owning a Virus b and Q Rack.
I traded or sold both of them and kept my Nord Modular and Korg OASYS PCI as my "VAs."
Of the two, I think I ultimately preferred the Q to the Virus, but I was forever post-processing it as it was always to clean-and-sheen for my tastes. (I kept my XTk and Pulse).
Perhaps a look at the Blofeld might be in order?
cheers,
Ian

Re: Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
is the XTk much different sounding from the Q?
Ideally I'd rather have an XTk, but I don't have the coin, and this offer is pretty nice...
and does the blofeld differ much soundwise? i might just pick one up instead of either, though the blofeld seems like 'too much synth', its deeper than the virus and the virus already steps into that area, i'd rather have some limitations...
if i was to get a blofeld I wouldnt sell the virus

What? Joey's even considering letting go of his beloved Virus? I think the end must be near for us all.
Seriously though, I think it might be worth spending a little more time with your Virus to try and rediscover what you loved about it in the first place. You don't want to make a decision you might regret, a bit like with your Nord Lead maybe?
Keeping the Virus and grabbing a Blofield might be a plan though.

yeah i'm not doing the trade...OriginalJambo wrote:What? Joey's even considering letting go of his beloved Virus? I think the end must be near for us all.

@aeon, i'm not looking for VA so much as powerful digital, which i have in the virus, but I want to get another shade of the same color... I have the nord lead 3 for the more basic VA stuff
@jambo, yeah I turned it on for two seconds and realized it was a stupid idea to consider the trade, i just need to get more creative, i've been spending time trying to 'learn' the virus rather than programming to get sounds I like, basically creating stuff that was more experimental just to learn rather than usable s**t, and I think that was my problem
okay so blofeld vs XTk go!
does the blofeld sound like the xtk?
my old band used the xtk as their main synth and i really f**k love its sound, so if the blofeld doesnt sound like it then its a no go

Good thing you got that resolved! :grommit:
I had a Q keyboard (and a uQ and a Qrack and an XT and a Pulse and an Indigo 1) and now have a TI. I don't really miss any of the Waldorfs but I sure as heck would miss the Virus.

Well first, do you actually use the TI side of the virus?Joey wrote:I recently got an offer for a straight up trade for my polar for a 32 voice waldorf Q keyboard...

I never really found it appealing so stuck with the older models
So maybe you could do the trade for the Q keyboard and then pick up a cheap virus A/B/C desktop?

Re: Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
the parts of the virus I use the most are the hypersaw and wavetable oscillators, which are not in the A/B/C virii.
as for viruscontrol, I only use it for backing up patches...
and i'm not trading the virus,
but does anyone know if the blofeld sounds much different from the XTk?

xt has different filter types available that the blo doesn't (and obviously a lot more knobs - but you were talking about sound). i cant see any reason not to at least try the blo (you had an xt for a while didn't you? or was that your bandmate?), they might even bring out sample support for the tabletop.

Re: Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
it was my bandmate that had the XT,
i will definitely try the blofeld, I just really want the xt sound, specifically the Sine x LP filter,
so if the blofeld has that overall sound and that filter i'd just pick it up instead
i dont really care about the sample memory

I was under the impression that the Blofeld had the filters from the Q, not from the XT.

Re: Should I trade my virus TI for a Waldorf Q keyboard?
I thought my XTk sounded quite different than my Q Rack in terms of timbre and overall character, albeit both of them tending toward a bright spectra.Joey wrote:is the XTk much different sounding from the Q?
I think the Blofeld sounds like what it is - an evolution of the engine of the Q.Joey wrote:does the blofeld differ much soundwise?
I think the Blofeld would certainly deliver in this regard.Joey wrote:i'm not looking for VA so much as powerful digital, which i have in the virus, but I want to get another shade of the same color... I have the nord lead 3 for the more basic VA stuff
Not to my ear. The XTk sounds like an XTk - the Blofeld sounds like the Q, evolved.Joey wrote:okay so blofeld vs XTk go! does the blofeld sound like the xtk?
Perhaps a no-go then.Joey wrote:my old band used the xtk as their main synth and i really f**k love its sound, so if the blofeld doesnt sound like it then its a no go

both sounds difference, specially in the filter department. I like the xt filter way better than the uQ. Also I can feel more quality converter and engine out of the xt. in short, I won't get a uQ for a xt sounds. Specially for trading the XT interface and build quality.Joey wrote:I just really want the xt sound, specifically the Sine x LP filter
