I'm looking to buy my first drum machine and I'm not really sure what I should get. I'm looking for something that makes reasonably nice drum sounds for under $500 used or new.
The only gear I have now is a Novation Bass Station Rack, so I really want a drum machine so I can actually start making some decent songs.
Anyway, if you have any suggestions please post them.
Also, I'm sorry if this sort of thing has been posted a million times.

What type of sounds are you looking for?
For $500? Some of the best IMHO --
Analog - Roland TR-606, MFB-503
Digital - Korg EMX-1
Sampler - Korg ESX-1, MPC500/1000 used

yeah, $500 is a good amount for a first drum machine.
But first you should think about what kind you want.

to make a decent song, you probably might need additional synth parts to accompany the BSR. Also you might need something that would sequence the external gear such as the BSR. if it has an extra output, you can process some of the sound through the BSR input. and if it has an input and ability to process external signal with the fx/engine, you can also route the BSR output for being processed further. some sampling might also spark things up by user drum samples and stuffs. for around the money, there are some machines that would allows you to do all that to jump up right away. just do more search here and you'll find more information about it.Hellhound wrote:The only gear I have now is a Novation Bass Station Rack, so I really want a drum machine so I can actually start making some decent songs.
