it's a nice feature... though i'd wish one could use it as vst (without cables)... or maybe i havent figured out how to.

great that it can be used standalone

I don't...I record everything individually into the duet... I only use the cheap mixer when I'm not recording.

I'd give a long look at the Metric Halo 2882, especially now with the arrival of the d2 +DSP upgrade. You get the benefit of a great I/O box with solid drivers combined with top-shelf DSP processing and bussing.

If the idea of having coloration, eq, and dynamics (among other things) on the iron as you go in and out appeals to you, it just might be exactly what you are after.
