I'm thinking about getting a prophet 2002 sampler for drums, I don't know what a fair price is for one $300?
12 bit sampling with analog filters god damn it's sounds too good to be true for drums.
They appear to be one of the only decent samplers with analog filters other than emaxx, I haven't tried the ensoniq emaxx and I never see rack version ensoniqs with analog filters that are fully working, always some problems. The emu sp1200 doesnt have proper cutoff/res controls from what I've heard.
I love the lo fi sound of the jomox sampling and I have a feeling that the prophet 2002 might sound a little better and cleaner, with better filters and higher bit resolution 12 instead of 8bit?
Anybody still use one of these?
Anybodys use the Prophet 2002 sampler for drums?

$300 is high for a non-plus 2002.
They come with different features. Either 256K, 512K, or 1M of memory, Varying OS versions, and either it has individual outputs or it doesn't.
For percussion it is not too bad to only have 256K, but obviously 512K is better. Having 1M is not that big of a deal, because you can't access it all at once. It is split into two different memory banks of 512 that can not interact with each other. You would probably only find this much memory in a plus model or if someone bought the upgrade from Wine Country.
Individual outputs and OS version is very important for percussion. Only the few newer versions of the OS support the forced output mode for making a voice static so that it would go out one output. If it doesn't have individual outputs, then you only have mono output which is not good for drums.
I have one that I upgraded to 512 with a kit from a friend and I installed the outputs. I love it, but my only complaint is that I haven't found a way to put the prophet into a midi mode that is suitable for me.
For instance, I turn on forced output and set up my drum samples in the right position, but then to play them I have to turn on a midi mode that makes each of the 16 sample places correspond to a midi channel. This is not good for me, because I have other things on all of my midi outputs.
However, as I write this, it occurs to me that I may be able to make a map and map drum samples to keys so that I don't have to use that mode. I think I'll try this today and come back.
Otherwise, they are really great, but then again, you may not like what I like.
Edit: I checked and you can build a map with the sounds to use the other midi modes. Also, I should mention that all the upgrades (Memory, outputs, OS EEPROM) are available at Wine Country. So you can always upgrade.
