i have been offered a v-synth for my triton classic and access virus classic rack. firstly is this a good swap value wise? and secondly what is the v-synth like to use?i like hands on analog and found the triton quite tedious to program!

Maybe see if you can do a straight swap Triton for V-Synth, V-Synth prices have plumeted since the GT so Triton + Virus might be a bit much. I still prefer the original V-Synth personally, will never sell mine

Wich is the version of your Triton? does it have the bulbs, or is the basic Triton? floppy disk?


I had a Karma, wich is almost the same thing as the Triton but with the Steph Ray's arppegiattor.
Is awful to program, navigating the screens, almost any function is TEDIOUS, presets are boring, despite there are some good strings. How much do you thing this synth is gonna cost in 5 years???

V synth:

Is not the best VA, you must know that. It's VA engine has a thin sound and horrible alliasing in some of the waveforms, but there are a lot of them to choose.
I have three years with mine, honestly, since it's not a perfect sound, is a very, very interesting machine and a lot of great sounds can come from it if you konw it well.

After using a the rigid interface of the Triton, you'll be amazed how easy to use the V synth is.... IMO, it has one of the most intelligent and intuitive user interfases ever on a single unit. Almost all functions, have their dedicated hardware controllers.

The sampler is HIGH quality, you can ring in several ways, the samples with the oscillators, get weird sounds, tweak samples in multiple ways. It comes with optical and digital outputs.

it has a cool filter section, good effects, and the way you spread the samples over the keyboard is great, with the variphrase technology.

Also, it's very friendly with the computer. Hook it with the USB, and organize your projects .prj. you can save your 500 presets and samples on the PC in seconds, and reorganize everything and load again.

Cons:
-Regular to almost good quality virtual analog
-Bad Alliasing
-Poor multitimbre section (does it have one?... je je)

Pros:
Incredible user interface. Very friendly and twekeable.
Great sampler. Variphrase
PC friendly...

Love mine to death, despite its imperfections. Is a valuable piece on my setup.

V synth can come to any kind of music, since it has a well integrated sampler, it's up to you how you gonna use it...

i have use it from electro to ambient to trance....

I agree with Hybrid. Better the classic V synth than the GT. It's easier to tweak

cheers for the detailed reply, much appreciated. mine has the blue touch screen and floppy.not sure what to do now, i always like to have a new synth to play with but i just feel i havnent given the triton enough of my time to master it and perhaps the same will happen if i got the roland unless it is much easier to use!

Well, I love it but the V's main selling point is it's variphrase ability to manipulate and combine sample synthesis and VA synthesis. If your looking to get a straight up VA synth then maybe the V's not the phattest available. Try nord lead, waldorf XTK or virus series for great all out VA's but if your after somthing special to tweak for hours for good or bad then the V is for you. It's like any synth, it can make incredibly beutiful sounds and it can make some pretty horrible one's too

Well, you are trading a rompler with floppy and a old VA (despite Virus classic has a good sound) for a VA that has a great sampler. In certain way, V synth is two machines in one. The sampler is not an extra, is a whole engine with great features and functions.

But I think that the sound that you obtain with 30 minutes of tedious programming on the Triton, could be 2 minutes on the V synth.

That's something that I really appreciate on the V synth: time. PURE fun when programming sounds. I just recommend the deal since I know both units, but at the end, it's just another's producer's opinion/

i am tempted! i paid 350 for my triton as its a bit grubby, what is a v-synth worth approx?

cheers for that, i am not a producer, i am more of an hobbiest to be honest.i like to play around with them and when i find one i can work with i will be trying to do prodigy style music (i hope lol)..its just really hard for me to know where and how to start.i have some gear to get going its just mastering sequencing it think.i have an mc-50, roland r8, x-station and the triton.i also have an sy55 in the attic but i found that too hard when i was a teenager

Best check on ebay for prices, can be anywhere from $500 to $1000 maybe but I reckon the V and Triton are about fair as a straight trade you got it for a very good price.

Prodigy make great use of Reason on computers these days by the way so maybe sequencing that way would suit the style better, mind you it depends on whether you mean new Prodigy or classic Prodigy.

Anyway, my advice would be to see if they'll do a straight trade Triton for V, if not maybe pass on it and keep the Triton - V-Synth *and* Virus would make a great combo

classic, i dont want to use computers if i can help it. i did get a macbook pro just incase but im hoping i wont need it for that use lol

hmm, big production tool you've got in the MacbookPro, but if you're determined to go classic I think Prodigy used a *lot* of Roland XP-50 for their hardware sequencing back in the day, also maybe the E-mu command station and Alesis MMT-8's they were sequencing fav's back in the '90s

cheers for that, its appreciated! other than logic what else would be of use?i take it logic would be used to sequence?not really looked into it just yet.i think the w30 was used alot in the 90's. i have seen liam howlett playing a track by pressing one key for the drums and another for the lead. i have an Emu E6400 ultra because i was hoping to sample drum loops and leads but not sure if that would work?

err, sh#t I don't really know I was only a kid in the 90's I didn't have a clue about all this stuff then
But yeah, logic would make perfect sense to use as a sequencer, it's pretty good on the MIDI side of things but Pro Tools smokes it on the audio IMO, but it's not bad.

If you are comfortable using a computer to produce, grab Logic 9 and start recording stuff from your hardware you'll be crankin' out the tunes in no time. Theres a reason not many people do it the old way these days - computers make it much, much quicker

what would i need to record audio?or direct into the mic input? i see a few on here http://www.soundonsound.com/readersads/ ... php?Cat=21

can you see anything else on there that might work for a lesser price!
