ARP 2600 prices.

Post by Ohm's Law » Wed Nov 18, 2009 8:34 am

Hi,

Seems 2600 prices really jump around.

Thought they were fetching $2500 to $3500.00 for the early gray models.

One recently went for almost $6000.00 on Ebay.

Any thoughts what these are really going for?
Moog Prodigy, Moog MG-1, Moog Liberation, Roland Juno 60, Roland SH-101, Roland MKS-80 super Jupiter, Roland SH-3a, Roland JX-305, Roland Sh-32,
Korg MS-10, Nord Micro Modular, Casio CZ-101, Univox Maxi-Korg, Yamha CS-01.

I haven't seen any version of the 2600 sell for less than $4K in a while. I was lucky enough to get one for just under $2K (sans keyboard) a couple years ago, but spent another $1K having CMS work his magic on it.

They're a lot of fun, but a little overratted. If you really want one, start saving and be patient. I haven't play a MacBeth M5, but it looks equally fun. Although it's much larger than a 2600, I think it has a few extra features - plus the 1/4" jacks would be more convienent than the 2600's mini plugs. Nada's got one for sale: http://www.vintagesynth.com/forum/viewt ... =9&t=51132 - he's taking offers over $3K, not bad.

For its price the 2600 is mos def the most overrated synth right now. Vintage-wise I'd go with a Minimoog D over it 100 times out of 100.

4K is a good price. 4-5K on average. It's a lot of money for anyone, but consider what they cost new: over 3K in the 70's = approaching 15K now. Nothing else sounds quite like a 2600 IMO, and it's cheap now by comparison. Yes, for that money you could have polyphonic waveshaping modular whatever, but that's not why people buy 30 year old synths. Your kia get's more reliable performance than a '56 gullwing mercedes, but which one are you drawn to from the soul?
