New synth?

Post by colorbars » Sat Apr 03, 2010 3:43 pm

I'm in the market for a new synth, i currently just have an ensoniq esq-1 and a yamaha pss-470. Any suggestions for some fun synths (rack/module/keyboard doesn't matter) that can be had for for little cash. I'm in school right now so i'd like to keep it under $200 for the time being. I was thinking something along the lines of an e-mu vintage keys because i love the sound of old analog stuff, but i'm open to any suggestions...

Thanks!!!

This will be moved to "Buyers Guide" by a mod soon.

If you like the sound of analogs, I'd recommend the following modules: Akai VX-90, Kawai K3M, Korg EX-800 or 8000 and Roland MKS-50.

Don't know about $200 max, but please watch the 'gear for sale' thread. I will soon have several more boards for sale:
Casio CZ-1, Korg DW-6000, Ensoniq SQ-2 (hard case)

I listened to Hatfield and the North at Rainbow. They were very wonderful and they made my heart a prisoner.

Taking your price range into consideration I would recommend either of the following.

Yamaha GX1

Boss DR55
Come on Bennett.... Let's Party!

Depending on your timing, an Akai AX60 can be had for slightly more on eBay. Keep an eye on the Sequential MultiTrack for sale too.

Hmm that multitrack went for a bit more than i thought it would haha. I've got my eye on a few things right now, it looks like within the next few days I'll have something. Any more suggestions?

So I ended up spending $100 more than I had originally planned and picked up a MS2000R.

Recently got one myself, excellent choice. You'll be jonesing for more polyphony eventually, but its a very powerful synth and easy to use/ learn on.
