Cheapest Drum Machine w/Individual Outs?

What got me interested in this topic is that way-cool Hobnox Audio Tool, and how you can virtually chain effects from individual outputs on the virtual 808 and 909. I've never owned either one so this way of working is new to me.

I was thinking the TR-626 might be the cheapest drum machine w/separate outs at $100-$200, but I'm not sure its worth getting for a techno-setup.

What I like about this kind of setup is when you apply different effects to the Toms (on the 808), especially with the pitch shifter effect, you can get some very minimal bleepy-type techno patterns going on. Also, when working this way, you can make entire techno tracks with JUST the drum machine and some FX.

You can get Yamaha RX-5's for peanuts these days. The sounds aren't amazing right off the bat, but there's plenty of parameter tweaking to be had.

Ok, I'll see if I can find some demos of it. I've noticed quite a few circuit-bent RX-17's over the years. That would be a super cool bonus if it had individual outs. Thanks!

With some intermediate skill you could always perform the individual outs mod on the 606 you mention in your gear list. I can tell you it's easier than the tonal/decay mods. If not self-performed you might be able to get a tech to do it for $100-200.

I would but I'm so afraid of getting the unit botched. No offense to any techs on here of course, as I'm sure they are all very skilled. Its just that....it's my PRECIOUS.....

I think I have my answer, by researching the VSE homepage: I'm leaning toward either the Yamaha RY-30 or the Kawai XD-5.

I don't have any experience with the RY30 but can tell you that you will absolutely have to process the xd-5 with something outboard as the output is kinda limp. I had one not too long ago and was using it as accessory percussion along side a DRM1 and had to put it through a distortion or my Evolver (at the time) to get it on the same page. It is HIGHLY editable and a very deep drum synth but oh so weak as far as output.

Casio RZ-1. Good lo-fi sound. And you can sample up to 4 sounds with it. Super easy to program. That's the drum machine I used the most (w. processing to make it sound gritty as possible). You should find one below 150$. I think I got mine for 80-100$.

Really? Ok, so the "four" outs that the VSE homepage states it has must really be two stereo outs with "L" and "R" channels. When I come to think about it though, I already have a TG-33 that has two individual stereo outputs, so I could combine the TG with the RY in a setup and actually have four seperate sound channels for processing.....

Yeah, that is kind of a hassle; all that work just for four separate drum sounds.

Yeah I totally dig the sound of the RZ-1 especially on Joey Beltram's music.

Thanks....It'll either be the RZ-1 or the XD-5 now. I have a solution for the XD-5 sounding to quiet in the mix:

The Roland R-8M can be had for around or under $100 these days. I just picked up a 2nd one for my (potential) live rig for $40. Here's a video I made of the factory ROM demo songs:

Be advised that the first demo song uses the built-in sounds only, whereas the other 6 songs showcase the sounds on that particular PCM ROM card.

Kawai R-100 has individual outs and can be had for around $100. The Roland TR-626 also goes for around $100.

I was going to say the rx5 too I got mine for 20 dollars and the outs are about the coolest thing on the thing with its editability.

If you don't need a sequencer on it, maybe an akai s1000 or similar? They have plenty of outputs.
