I am looking for a synth with minimal menu diving.
As stated in the subject. I have not posted here for several months and that was the last question that I had. I got quickly confused and have had to spend a decent bit of time reading up on stuff to figure out how to even ask a fair question. I think that I may be in a good place now.
Basically, what I want is to have is a synth with mostly everything done by knobs/sliders. The sounds that I want to get to are going to be the old analog stuff and organ sounds.
The price is based more on what is a deal than what retail would be. Sure, that is hopelessly generic but that is where I am at. Really, I can go to an LMS and drop plastic money on a Prophet 08PE no problem. However, I really want to not miss out on whatever deals may exist.
The older Nord Lead series looks interesting. The same for some of the older Waldorf keyboards.
Heck but if ebay dropped nicely on either of those, I could try for the other and have two nice synths for less that the prophet would cost. More to the point though, are there other synths that I have not found out about that I need to look at?
I am looking for a synth with minimal menu diving.

I am looking for a synth with minimal menu diving.
Current gear:
Korg X5 (basically an ROMpler)
Casio VZ 10M (rack mount 80's style synth-- think DX7 on steroids)
Roland A 37 (6+ octave controller for the Casio rack unit above)
Roland JP 8000 (well enough known analog modeling digital synth)
Korg X5 (basically an ROMpler)
Casio VZ 10M (rack mount 80's style synth-- think DX7 on steroids)
Roland A 37 (6+ octave controller for the Casio rack unit above)
Roland JP 8000 (well enough known analog modeling digital synth)

OK, the MS 2000 deserves a good looking at. what else might I have missed?

A Novation: Nova, Supernova, K-series .. keyboard, module, desktop, there's always something to suit your needs. It's vast, has plenty polyphony and effects, basic synthesis on the frontpanel, some menu diving for the extremes, but nothing that should worry you. (it's no DX synthesis
)
"You know I love you, CS, but this is bullshit." (Automatic Gainsay)

I think the Supernova is a very good choice for this. Just about everything you need is right in front of you. The only problem is they can be somewhat difficult to find. If you want a Keyboard version they seem to only pop up once in great while. There are, however, usually one or two racks for sale on ebay at any given time.

+1 Supernova
There's a little bit of menu diving since each section almost requires you to tweak an extra parameter or two, but it's not a big deal though since the menus are only one level deep usually, so editing is fast fast fast. And boy does it sound good.

What kind of music do you play/what do you want from your synth/what synths do you currently own?
I'm a synth newborn, a stillborn if not.

OK, my gear is in my sig, except for a TX81 that I got for real cheap on ebay a few months ago.
As far as the music goes, mostly 70's and a bit of 60's. So organ sounds will always come in handy. Although they clearly will not do that well with the really great prog rock stuff.
Also, I have been getting into the 80's stuff the past couple of years. That stuff sends me in a whole different direction. There we are probably looking at some rather thicker sounds, probably layered together from other patches.
From what I am seeing right now, the Nord stuff seems to be all over ebay and usually can be had at fairly low prices. The Waldorf and Novation gear exists but is less common (so I might have to wait a while for a good deal to come up on one of those).
I really don't want to think about price all that much, so much as to keep in mind that there pretty much can't ever be anything on ebay that does not have a bottom price if you wait a while to see what that may be. For example, the prophet 08 stuff rarely goes below two grand but if you are willing to wait for the deals, eventually they do turn up at around $1,500 or so.
