Does anyone know the wholesale price for Dave Smith Gear?

Here is the deal: I found an ebay seller who is actually a couple of towns away from me who has the Prophet 08PE. He lists it for $2,300 or best offer.

So I sent him a message. I can drop by and try it if you can do that. Also, I start at $1,500. We will see where we go from there.

He gets back to me with: you can drop by my living room and play mine but that is only a demo unit. I would have to order one for you. It will cost you $1,900 and I need a $200 deposit.
Current gear:

Korg X5 (basically an ROMpler)
Casio VZ 10M (rack mount 80's style synth-- think DX7 on steroids)
Roland A 37 (6+ octave controller for the Casio rack unit above)
Roland JP 8000 (well enough known analog modeling digital synth)

Wholesale prices are usually dependent upon quantity ordered, with discounts given for higher orders. It doesn't really seem applicable here, or rather, shouldn't be much of a consideration for your decision.

If I understand your post correctly, as there's a bit of an unnecessary story behind the price you're being offered of $1,900.00, he's basically knocking $200.00 off the manufacturer suggested retail price (MSRP) of $2,099.00 for the Prophet '08 PE keyboard.

I'd make a wild guess he's still making a profit of around $200.00 to $300.00 for that, but you're unlikely to find anybody willing to offer you the Prophet '08 PE keyboard for less because the lack of profit wouldn't make it worth their time (and we all know time is equal to money, so it would in fact be a profit loss). If he's buying Prophet '08 PE keyboards in large wholesale quantities I'd make a wild guess he could be making around $500.00 profit at the price he's offering to you, but given that he's got to order the keyboard and requires your $200.00 deposit I doubt he's getting all that much of a discount directly from the distributor due to low order quantities.
