Rack Drum Modules?

I have a open space in my rack so I am looking for a rack drum module. Can be analog or digital rompler ect. I want punchy kicks and snaresI don't know much about rack drum modules. Of coruse multi outs would be good but not a must. Any input on what I should be looking at ?

the r8m looks pretty sweet and I dont know about the ddr30. Have to look into that one .I dont want a sampler as I use my mpc5000 as a sampler/seq. Maybe I should say I am looking for a stand alone rack sound source for some punchy drums to chain with a seq like my rs7000 or rm1x

DDR-30 is 2 rack spaces. While it does have punch kicks & snares, it doesn't have a wide variety of sounds in it.

I really like the R-8M. I've owned one for 19 years and recently purchased another for live rig for a project that I hope will matieralize. You can pick one up for under $100.

The R8m is brilliant. Roland always did a super job sampling the 808 and 909. I think I'd prefer an R8 because the sequencer does some interesting things.

There's also the Kawai XD-5, that does some interesting stuff. The Yamaha RM-50 was great too. The Alesis D4 would be very very cheap, not as sonically interesting as the other three though. No synthesis at all with that one, just layering and tuning. The Akai XE-8 has some good sounds in it, but these are available as samples which represent it exactly, so not much point in getting that one because it has no velocity layers or any kind of synthesis.

In the late 80's/early 90's I had both HR-16 & HR-16:B and was excited when Alesis released the D4 and sold the 2 HR's to get the D4. I didn't keep the D4 very long because it really didn't "punch". Soon after, I bought the R-8M and was very satisfied.

The Alesis DM5 is pretty good, but I still prefer the R8.

Yes, the R-8 drum machine's sequencer is a lot of fun, but I prefer to use one sequencer for multiple drum sources.

Thanks for all the input.The jomox and Novation are a little high priced for what I want to do with this.If I ever pay over a grand for a drum machine it will be a tr 808. As it is I have so so so many 808 samples in my mpc .So I am leaning on the r8m.I dont care that it does not have a sequencer.What I am going to be doing in the end is triggering the drums from either the mpc or rs7000.This is for live live use.I got a small rack bag with my svc350 and zoom 1204 vocoders with Tx 81z feeding them both.(I will be using a jx8p as well but the tx81z sounds just fine feeding both vocoders thick and smooth )A one unit drum machine like the r8m for beefing up permade drum sequences is just what I am looking for.Though that air base is really something by the looks of it.

Update-Bought a R8m for a good low price it also came with the infamous 808 card

Right around the 3 hundredish mark. When I said over 1000 I was meaning the Jomox Air Base. I think I am happy with what I decided to go with for I want I want to do with it. Spending $ 145.000 shipped with card anit too much for mucking around with some new live drums well see how it works out.

The AirBbase99 costs around €300, at least here in Europe. The R8m is a good choice tho.
