Korg Polysix: Is it even worth the trouble?
I'm in the market for a P6 now that I realized it is indeed in my price range. But it seems like every other poor polysix on the market now has problems. -The battery exploded some time down the road, keys don't work, odd broken things here and there... "This worked fine 3 years ago but I just took it out of storage and it's screwed up." it's weird.
I found a good, honest, tech only one mile away from my house (!) who can work on one if I need... Is it worth investing in though?

I had one for a few weeks last summer. They rock. I wish I could justify getting one, but I have (almost) all I need. Wonderful filters.

most of the p6's we've seen have had battery acid damage.
many of them were "repaired" by a tech but malfunctioned again because the tech did a bad job.
make sure your tech knows what he's doing.
if he does a good job repairing it, it'll be a beautiful sounding instrument. i love the polysix.

I'd say it's worth it. Although one with the battery damage can turn into a money pit -- you never know how bad it really is until it's all taken apart.

If you want to have a dependable playable keeper, consider the cloned CPU board if the battery damage requires more than a few jumpers.
EDIT: Good to have a competent tech for this one. The Poly has several CV adjustments that interact with each other and are critical to the proper operation of the synth.

I think the clones are out now... Jed told me that it's the last one when I bought mine
Re: Korg Polysix: Is it even worth the trouble?
i am considering a polysix right now .is it a good complement to the mono/poly (my main synth ) , or are they too similar ??

On the Mono/Poly, the poly section is really just a string synth. So yes, they are very different.

afraid you're talking about the wrong synth... poly mode just splits its four VCO's.cornutt wrote:On the Mono/Poly, the poly section is really just a string synth. So yes, they are very different.
druzz, they aren't too similar. look 'em up on VSE. sub osc, chorus, phaser, arpeggiator, memory, individual & group VCO controls - they definitely have differences.

I think he meant that it's paraphonic... which it is in poly mode, isn't it?space6oy wrote:afraid you're talking about the wrong synth... poly mode just splits its four VCO's.cornutt wrote:On the Mono/Poly, the poly section is really just a string synth. So yes, they are very different.

yes, four voices through one filter. doubt that's what he meant though...pflosi wrote:I think he meant that it's paraphonic... which it is in poly mode, isn't it?space6oy wrote:afraid you're talking about the wrong synth... poly mode just splits its four VCO's.cornutt wrote:On the Mono/Poly, the poly section is really just a string synth.
