Decent workstation under $1000?
Preferrably under 5 years old...I've been looking at the Korg MicroStation and I seems to be a good workstation for the money (it may also be the only modern workstation in my price range
). I'm going into composing music for video games and I need something that can do not only good sounds (except guitar sounds, I've got real guitars for that) , but also arranging and some basic production.
Any suggestions?

Re: Decent workstation under $1000?
I'd recommend the Roland Fantom X6 (I've got 2, one at home and one at my furniture shop when I need a break). I see them on CraigsList all the time for $800-$1K.
Sounds Great - great pianos, strings, choirs, acoustic guitars. OK analogish-sounds. Meh brass
128 note/tone polyphonic (though most sounds use 2-4 "tones" at a time)
Nice Built-In digital effect which can also be used to process external instruments or mic.
Sequencer is OK. It's powerful, but kind of a pain for precise editing
If it has "Audio Expansion" (most of them do and it's a free upgrade from Roland), you've also got a 8 track STEREO multi-track

+1 on the Fantom if you are looking for strings, choirs, etc...I think that they do that the best. I would also take a look at the Motif ES as well. I like the synth sounds more on this than the Fantom. I guess it all depends what sounds you really need from the workstation. You could also look at a Triton...they will go for under $1k too.

Kurzweil kicks arse for workstations, they sound amazing. You can get a new B-Stock PC3LE6 for $1100, I'd go with that if I were you.

For some reason I always forget about Kurzweil...I don't know why either. I actually played the PC3LE6 three different times. It was an amazing machine, but I didn't know you could get one close the the $1k mark. If they are this cheap now, I would say to go with PC3LE6....it would be a no brainer to me.Stab Frenzy wrote:Kurzweil kicks arse for workstations, they sound amazing.
