Analogue Solutions Europa

Post by Sir Nose » Mon Jul 25, 2011 3:50 pm

I know a few of you on here went with this. After using it a while now what are your thoughts? Durability or bugs issues?

I would of considered the Cirklon, but it is out of my price range.

The Europa looks like it will fit my workflow better than the command station I'm currently using. The Europa should fit into my setup well. I'd be selling the CS to help fund it.

Anything else similar I should be considering?

I bought one mainly to sequence & trigger analog drum modules (I've got videos on YT demostrating this with Tama Techstar and Pearl Fightman). It's very easy to use.

Other than drums, I've only used one additional monophonic track for basslines (working on a Berlin "The Metro" cover), which was also easy to create patterns. I don't understand how to arrange the patterns into a song and think I'll just play & switch the patterns in real time while recording to a linear sequencer like my Fantom X6.

I think the AS Europa would be an awesome sequencer if it could do polyphonic tracks. You can sort of do that by using multiple monophonic tracks with the same MIDI channel. OR, being a monophonic multi-track, it would have been nice to have, at least, a couple of pairs of CV/Gate outputs.

What about the Genoqs Nemo?

How's the button durability, feel, and response? Double triggers or ignored commands?

How's the swing?

I would be using it with:
CV
Trigger a Simmons SDS400 and effects (delay, gate, compressor)

MIDI
Trigger drums on an SCI drumtraks and EMu World ROM(keeping that one from the CS I have a Orbit 3 chassis for it)
Little Phatty
MeeBlip
MIDI Murf

Only ploy use would be some pads or stabs on an Alpha Juno

I am currently reading the manual, but if you have quick answers:
1. Is the analog clock out configurable? I'd like to be able to half or double clock the drumtraks, it's 24, 48, or 96 ppqn. Edit: Bummer only 4 ppqn clock out
2. Is it possible to assign one of the cv trigger to one of the monophonic tracks?
3. Does the CV trigger voltage change with the programmed velocity? Edit: No, only one trigger voltage

I demonstrate the Europa's swing feature in my video around 1:00.

The 7 trigger outs only output a constant trigger voltage - no dynamics/accents. There are accents for the MIDI drums. Unfortunately, there are only 12 MIDI drum notes / instruments.

I have never used the analog clock outs, so I cannot comment. For user definable PPQ, I recommend the Roland SBX-80

The 7 trigger outs are only for the drum track, but you could send triggers to monosynths' gate inputs, but you'd have to play the notes on their keyboards.

Hope I answered all your questions, if not, you might want to hit up this guy:

He's got some great videos of AS stuff.

Thanks for all the info.

How's the button response? Missed mutes ever occur? Do you have to be firm and deliberate about button pushes?

After reading the manual I am still a bit confused about what can be edited while the sequencer is still running?

Beat707

Post by Sir Nose » Sat Sep 03, 2011 6:51 pm

Found this. http://www.beat707.com/w/
For $200 (shell, arduino mega2560, case, hardware for trigger out mod), I can keep my command station and get most of what the Europa had to offer me. Main things missing: built quality and large interface.

Any beat707 users have any comments?
