exactly, but I haven't seen anyone appeal to the common sense argument against this variety of frustrated opinion based ranting. Which is why it sucks my post was ignored. That really should be the end of it too: things should be the way they are now, not years ago. If you imagine history happened differently, then sure: you can come up with all sorts of alternatives. Does it mean they should be real instead of what is real? Certainly not. The world you think should be the case is either ignoring some fact about reality or adding some factor that doesn't exist. Either way it's just a fantasy. Your welcome to hold any opinion under the sun, but I would be doing you an injustice by passively supporting it through inaction if I have good reason to believe its not very well supported. At least when it's posted on a public forum for discussion anyway...

Clearly the number of people who think cheapo Alesis synths can stand up against a Jupiter 6 is few and far between here on VSE. I just like that there's the occasional rant to keep things interesting, even if the arguments aren't grounded in what the rest of us consider reality.

Most of synths the people love here have a really nice interface for constructing the sound your after. Cheapo modern synths generally don't. Even if Georgemarauder is right it does sound as good, why the h**l would I want to play an synth that's no fun to use? I should probably give an OB-12 a chance in that regard, but I seem to recall Tom Oberheim being pretty displeased with the sound, and that was enough for me to loose interest.

Well, once I get my octave Cat repaired, I will be trading it for an Arp Odyssey with a nice gentleman who frequents these forums; we've actually already made agreements. It would be the most expensive thing I've ever personally owned. The most I've ever spent on a synth was the busted Cat I already own, which was $800.

However, once I've had some fun with the Odyssey, I may sell it and move onto something different. It's an astoundingly unique opportunity for someone with a minimum wage job and very little money to get ahold of vintage analog. Personally, it's not really about the "vintage" aspect, but the specs and hassle free user interfaces. Not to mention the SOUND. There IS a difference. And it matters to me and what I put into my music. I really don't think it's all hype. For the Jupiter 8? Yes, but not all analogs are overpriced or overhyped.

And when it comes to VA's and Real Analogs, I don't think one is better than the other either. Apples and Oranges. You get what you pay for.

I've been seriously considering the Access Virus TI, as I love the sound, but as someone who has already had many VA's, I think I might be ready for something a little more substantial sounding for specific types of sounds.

As far as reliability, everything dies eventually. Just like people. It seems though, that if it's taken care of and properly maintained, an old Roland will last a very long time.
