looking for a synth thats good for bass and has a sequencer
Hey folks!
I have decided that my next piece of gear to buy will be a hardware analog synth. I really want to make sure it is one that will be good for all kinds of bass sounds and even some wooden or hollow type of sounds and organic sounds.
The other thing that is very important to me is a built in sequencer to program in some note runs.
So far the mopho keyboard has really caught my eye but if you could suggest something else that comes to mind (new or vintage) that would be great.
Thanks

What's your budget? How long does the sequence need to be? Do you need a keyboard? Do you want the sequencer to be analogue style or x0x style or do you just want to record the keys that you play?
There are about 100 or so synths that fit the criteria you've given us, a bit more information would help us narrow things down. Without extra information people will just call out their favourite synths.

A good sound designer gets a good bass from most synths, with the final tonal bits being tweaked during the mixing process. I personally don't really believe in all this "this 2-osc -> filter -> env synth is better than that 2-osc -> filter -> env synth, and also better than that 2-osc -> filter -> env synth" mumbo jumbo.
My advice: screw brands and legends, just pick the synth which has oodles 'n oodles o' tweaking options to fine-tune bass sounds (and any other sound for that matter).

Re: looking for a synth thats good for bass and has a sequen
thanks for the replies everyone. I have looked into the pro one and its seems really cool but then again the mopho is cheaper and newer... I guess my budget is about 1000, and as for the step sequencer I really think that the old style like the devices in reason use would be best where you turn the dials to match the pitch you want and the light moves hown. 16 steps woul be ok but if it goes higher like 32 or even higher would be great as well. As for being more specific I dont really know what else to say other than it must be analog, and good for all types organic sounds especially hollow types of sounds kind of like the bass in the song synthacon 9 by the tuss!
The mopho almost seems like the one Im going to go with unless there are other suggestions or reasons to choose something else...?

when I hear analog bass and sequencer under $1000, two other instruments come to mind in addition to the mopho

Re: looking for a synth thats good for bass and has a sequen
when I hear sequencer, I think Elektron products/MonoMachine...not a bass monster, but certainly capable, and holy s**t it's one of the more musical and deep boxes I have had the pleasure of playing...easily find a mkI for well under 1k and MkII for $900-$950 used.
Not sure about Mopho sequencer...if it is like the MEK it's fairly limited. Cool sequencer, but for me it was not really a go to for making a bass line, more of a dope way to modulate things...
Maybe for a bit more $ go with a DarkTime + Dark Energy? For well less than 1k over a few months on Craigslist, I was able to get an SEM and a Mobius to make for a wicked combination...maybe scan ebay for something you like?
I like Bouzoukijoe1's recommendations as well...

Re: looking for a synth thats good for bass and has a sequen
well sure, but some things really do lend themselves to making great bass sounds easily and others not so much. i find it hard to coax a bass that will sit nicely in a mix from my nova for example.CS_TBL wrote:A good sound designer gets a good bass from most synths, with the final tonal bits being tweaked during the mixing process. +1 for the 101 and monomachine (not analog) but also if analog is not a must, have a look at fm synths if you want to add something cheaply to the mix (fm basses can be awesome) plus the nord modular g1 can do great bass amongst other things, but you are tied to a computer if you want to use the sequencers in a nice way...
i'll add the jx3p and mc202 to the list. the mopho is probably the cheapest option. some of the mfb synths look like they'd fit the bill too, can't speak from experience there but i like the mfb drum machines.

The Sh 101 doesnt have an option to store patches right? So what do you do, just write down your fav settings?
