UK korg polysix, is this a scam?

Post by winnebago » Mon Jun 18, 2012 6:09 pm

Just been on gumtree and searched korg in the united kingdom. Near the top of the list was a serviced korg polysix, priced at £280. Straight away I thought this was suspicious. Here is a link to the page...
http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/korg- ... /104727588

I then went to check completed listings on ebay for polysix's, and the top one was a polysix in bulgaria which recently sold for £580, this listing had the exact same description and pictures as the one on gumtree.... here is a link to that ended auction... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KORG-POLYSIX- ... 27c7e08a0f

When I replied to the ad on gumtree I got a reply from some email address saying to ask any questions about the item at another email address which was provided... Sounds very strange.

Anybody have any idea what could be going on?

If anything makes you uncomfortable about a deal, walk away. Maybe it's genuine, maybe the seller is dealing on behalf of a friend, maybe he has dual nationality, maybe it's all fake and he'll mug you if you show up. Who knows. But if anything raises your suspicions, just don't bother and wait for another day.

Luckily I've had no real bother from any deals - a couple of times I've had shady-sounding emails that are odd from the start, other times I've had ones that sound OK but I get a little odd feeling about aspects of it later - any buyer who asks for my full name, address, phone and postcode can take a hike right there and then, for example. Multiple email addresses are not all that unusual, I use a couple on a regular basis, but if anything at all smacks to you of dodgy, just forget it and move on. Better that, than lose money or risk physical harm, etc.

Yes I totally agree. Wont be going anywhere near it, just thought I would notify others and see if anybody knew anything.

The thing what really made me think twice was how the same pics and description were on ebay in a different country. Very strange.
